“I Can’t Believe It’s Not AI!”

I’m G. Billington Evans.

AI art generators are muddying the waters and making digital artists such as myself look like knobs by creating confusion in the digital art market. “Did he paint that himself?” “Or is he a chump?” To hell with it then, I’ll just make it a selling point. When life gives you lemons and whatnot.

So, here’s what I do, in a nutshell. I make mostly digital artworks and produce satirical articles on various topics in both long and short form.

Now, you see that painting to the left of this paragraph? Well, that was painstakingly painted from scratch. Emphasis on “painstakingly.” Brushstroke by wretched, back-breaking brushstroke.

I had two options. One, paint that thing. Or, two, beat my head against a cinderblock. The difficulty involved and the cumulative effect on your overall headspace are basically the same, but nobody really pays you to beat your head against a cinderblock (though I’ve had a few offers).

So here we are. Plan B.

I believe in craftsmanship, not shortcuts. These artworks take many (many) hours of blood, sweat, tears and skill to complete; otherwise, what the hell’s the point?

So, the next time you see some broccoli-haired numb-nuts on your “Instant-Gram,” or whatever it’s called, trying to sell you some piece of crap they whipped up in two minutes at their keyboard, I hope I can count on you to vote “yes” on ability and “yes” on actually making the thing by telling them:

“Who types a painting? Honestly.”

“F*** that, I’m heading on over to

Away from your dumb ass.”
